Join us over coffee & donuts to have open discussions with fellow faculty on various teaching and learning topics. Faculty are encouraged to share best practices, successes, challenges, and tips for success.
Learning Cafés are meant to be a safe space where faculty can speak freely without judgment. These are informal in nature so there is no formal instruction. Learning Cafés take place in-person at the South Campus. Topics are released monthly along with a registration link via college email. The CAE looks forward to plenty of enriching conversation and intriguing ideas to help our SCC faculty flourish in the classroom.
Upcoming Learning Cafés:
Join us on Friday, January 30th, from 10-11 am on South Campus (CAE Room A2332) for coffee as we engage in a collaborative discussion about Engaging Students with Clear Expectations.
Faculty do a lot to try to get our students to show up to class, engage in content, collaborate with their peers, complete their assessments, care, and succeed. Sometimes it feels like these efforts are fruitless. This conversation is not meant to add one more thing to your plate. But rather, to explore ways of building a community of learners within your classroom and setting expectations for meaningful engagement, which are revisited throughout the semester.
Students, particularly adult learners, learn best when they feel a sense of ownership, control, and responsibility for their own learning, and when they feel connected to those around them. Creating the conditions for this requires intention and effort, but the pay-off can lessen the load down the line and result in a more rewarding teaching and learning experience for both you and your students.
