Developing Lesson Plans

The lesson plan is an integral part of teaching and learning as it is the week-by-week building of knowledge and skills students need to achieve the course learning outcomes. A well-structured lesson:

  • builds on student prior knowledge and experience
  • offers collaborative, active learning strategies to engage students in a variety of multimodal ways (e.g., using digital tools such as Kahoot!, Padlet, Google Docs, etc.)
  • uses formative evaluative and non-evaluative assessments (e.g., observation of student discussions, small knowledge check-ins using Kahoot!, etc.) to gauge learning and inform teaching
